PHOTRON BUILDS NEW CAD SYSTEM AROUND SPATIAL’S CGM CORE MODELER
Leveraging Unique Memory Optimization And Unparalleled Capacity For Large Data Handing
BROOMFIELD, Colo., July 12, 2017 — Spatial Corp, the leading provider of 3D software development toolkits for design, manufacturing, and engineering solutions, and a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), announces today that Photron Limited of Japan has adopted the CGM Core Modeler as the modeling kernel of choice for its new Zunou CAD3D software suite.
In addition to their substantial imaging business, Photron develops and markets 2D/3D CAD software solutions, specializing in application fields, such as machinery design, architecture, and civil engineering. The company’s current focus is to target CAD solutions to part suppliers of the automobile and aircraft industries.
When the development team at Photron began architecting their next-generation CAD tool, Zunou CAD3D, the team was faced with a dilemma regarding the modeling kernel. A logical decision would be to use the same modeling kernel found in the previous CAD tool, Zunou Rapid 3D. But Rapid 3D was based on the Designbase modeling kernel, which was nearing end of life. In searching for a replacement kernel, one offering stood out: Spatial’s CGM™ Core Modeler.
CGM Core Modeler
For more than two decades CGM Core Modeler has been used in Dassault Systèmes’ digital applications, including CATIA. CGM Core Modeler is proven technology that is leveraged by some of the world’s largest manufacturers. The CGM Core Modeler supplies functions to create, modify and query objects, as well as to support visualization, simulation and analysis. With its unique memory optimization strategies, CGM Core Modeler has an unparalleled capacity for large data handling. As a result, designing and manipulating of large models is fast and reliable, especially when compared to other commercial modelers.
“Given the widespread usage of CATIA applications in our market space, using the same modeling kernel gives us the ability to directly edit these models without any loss of accuracy or quality due to translation,” said Shinoda Yuji, Executive Officer, CAD Solutions Department Chief of Photron. “Having Spatial as our strategic technology partner has helped us to accelerate our time to market and focus on our core competencies to deliver a higher quality product to the CAD market.”
“We understand that changing to a new modeling kernel was a big decision, and delivering the right technology to Photron was critical to the success of the partnership,” said Ray Bagley, Director of Product Management for 3D Modeling and Additive Manufacturing at Spatial. “We are gratified that Photron selected us as their technology partner, and were able to leverage the advanced capabilities of the CGM Core modeler platform, as well as Spatial’s modeling expertise.”
A beta version of Zunou CAS3D was unveiled to interested customers at the 28th Design and Manufacturing Solutions Exhibition, and was available for review at the Technology Exhibition for People and Vehicles at Nagoya 2017, June 28-30.
