OCTOPUZ Partners With Spatial Corp to Help Build The Next Generation of OCTOPUZ OLRP Software

Apr 14, 2022 6:00:00 AM

Built upon a partnership with Spatial, OCTOPUZ provides the industry with an updated and modernized user experience, simplified workflows, and advanced programming tools. The next generation of OCTOPUZ has been re-architectured and re-designed to focus on OLRP.

OCTOPUZ and Spatial Corp have partnered to enable the next generation of OCTOPUZ OLRP, an intelligent Offline Robot Programming (OLRP) software that enables complex robot applications to be programmed without disruption to a manufacturer's industrial processes, and without the need for an onsite robot programming expert. This next-generation software aims to create a simplified and intuitive Offline Robot Programming experience that keeps industrial robots online and maximizes productivity.

OCTOPUZ, the next generation of OLRP

OCTOPUZ’s next generation of software makes complex robot programming simple through cutting-edge OLRP that enables detailed robot operations, complete with machinery and manufacturing components, to be first simulated in 3D on a computer, then output for the real world.

“Our 3D world is the very core of our Offline Robot Programming experience; it is where a user interacts with their robot environment and where they program, verify, and simulate their next production job. The success of our product depended on a trusted, capable partner with experience in 3D CAD modeling to help us realize our vision. Spatial is that partner and more,” said James Schnarr, Senior Product Manager, OCTOPUZ.

By programming robot functions in a virtual, offline environment, OLRP eliminates the need for robots to be taken off production, greatly improving productivity and a manufacturer's bottom line. OLRP provides manufacturers the ability to simplify complex, time-consuming programming, reduce robot downtime, increase production efficiencies, and conceptualize designs prior to manufacturing.

When developing the next generation of its software, OCTOPUZ knew importing, viewing, and modifying CAD was critical to OCTOPUZ OLRP’s success. OCTOPUZ reviewed open-source options and other paid third parties and felt that Spatial provided the most functionality. Spatial's capabilities, experience building applications in a range of industries, and a strong background in assisting customers with solving their CAD-related problems set them apart from the rest.

“OCTOPUZ has been a great partner to collaborate with in bringing innovative solutions to the robotics industry. They’re a talented group of passionate professionals that have always strived to create the best user experience. We at Spatial have been fortunate to be a part of their journey and to help them tackle their greatest challenges,” said Yashdeep Padey, Industry Process Consultant, Spatial Corp.

A new OLRP software generation means new added benefits:

  • A modern user interface eliminates complexity and simplifies workflows. OCTOPUZ re-designed the OCTOPUZ OLRP platform to provide users with a clean, modernized software that is easy to use. OCTOPUZ OLRP also provides a clear process flow of positioning the next job's part, programming robots, and creating robot code that keeps projects on time and production-ready.
  • Cell templates allow users to start programming right away. A cell template is a common environment containing fixed components and other things that don't change between unique projects or jobs - like robots, positioners, fences, et cetera. Every new project - which is the next part to be programmed - begins with a cell template as its starting point so that our user can quickly jump in and start programming.
  • Controllers, robots, and positioners connect and interact exactly as they do in the real world. In the OCTOPUZ OLRP platform, robots and positioners are all connected directly to the controller. This makes it incredibly easy to program multi-robot systems with multiple rotary and/or rail positioners, all within the same file.
  • Flexible user-based accounts let users work from anywhere. OCTOPUZ users can now log in and program in OCTOPUZ on any computer the user would like – the user is no longer tied to one specific device.
The new generation of OCTOPUZ OLRP software is already available. Visit the website to learn more about its capabilities and see the full notes behind this release.
