Spatial Announces the Availability of its BIM Suite

Spatial BIM Suite helps tame the data chaos prevalent across the AEC industry

BROOMFIELD, Colo., November 13, 2018 — Spatial Corp, the leading provider of 3D software development toolkits for design, manufacturing, and engineering solutions, and a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes, announces today the general availability of its BIM Suite, composed of interoperability, 3D modeling and visualization solutions.

The Spatial BIM Suite allows solution developers to solve data chaos in the construction industry that limits BIM adoption and leads to significant costs for end users including wasted time coordinating manual processes, material waste, plus change order and litigation expenses.

“One of the largest challenges to BIM adoption across the construction industry is the fragmentation of data formats and standards,” said Jean-Marc Guillard, CEO, Spatial. “In fact, these formats and standards can vary not just by discipline but even at the project level, resulting in data anarchy. The Spatial BIM Suite’s solutions for data interoperability, 3D modeling, and visualization help tame this data anarchy, enabling developers to create leading-edge applications for building design, analysis, mechanical, electrical and plumbing, manufacturing and fabrication, construction plus maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) workflows.”

Modern buildings, including next generation smart buildings, are complex systems encompassing millions of individual components — far exceeding the complexity of the current generation of passenger aircraft with component counts under a half million. Further complicating the issue, buildings are constructed by many different teams at different times outdoors, requiring materials and assemblies from multiple vendors — both big and small — rather than being built by a single workforce in a conditioned factory with well controlled supply channels.

BIM, or building information modeling, was developed to try to tame and manage this complexity, providing a single source of truth for an entire project. BIM is a digital knowledge base describing the physical and functional aspects of a building. This knowledge base then serves to manage a building throughout its lifecycle, from initial design and construction to maintenance and decommissioning. This management enables the evolution from traditional construction workflows to more-efficient PLM-like manufacturing processes. By definition, BIM encompasses multiple disciplines and organizations — from iron and concrete workers to HVAC and networking professionals — leading to a wide range of data formats, workflows and tool sets.

The Spatial BIM Suite enables application developers to build exceptional, bespoke BIM solutions through the following:

DATA INTEROPERABILITY

Conceptual and detailed designs as well as structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing specifications are often represented in multiple formats and systems. Effective BIM data interoperability requires the accurate translation of metadata, retention of geometric precision, and tracking of modifications. Spatial’s 3D InterOp allows BIM application developers to solve these challenges and offer new solutions to the market through world-class 3D model translation capabilities.

3D MODELING

During the lifecycle of a building project, multiple groups and disciplines require access to 3D modeling data, whether as part of the initial design and construction, or as the documentation set needed for building maintenance and decommissioning. With over 30 years of 3D modeling leadership, Spatial provides advanced and complete 3D creation and editing components that ensure precision and traceability while enabling application providers to automate time-intensive steps such as feature identification and removal — a capability critical for BIM workflows which require varying levels of detail for web and mobile visualization.

VISUALIZATION

Visualization of 3D models is key to BIM workflows, whether it is for construction firms and contractors in the field working on mobile devices, marketing professionals working with clients, or for later building maintenance/remodeling. The Spatial BIM toolkit provides robust desktop visualization components, capable of displaying 3D models with engineering-level precision across various locations and devices and the performance needed for augmented and virtual reality applications. These capabilities also extend to mobile devices to bring BIM data where it is needed.
