Modern port design is a complex, multi-disciplinary exercise that deals with all aspects of a project, from the geological assessment to wharf construction. A general contractor has to facilitate the work of a wide number of engineering and construction teams. A wide range of disciplines must be covered: geology, geotechnical analysis, hydraulic design along with construction design.
Much like building information modeling (BIM), modern port design relies on a 3D model as the base definition of the project, with every team working collaboratively.
CCCC-FHDI Engineering Co., Ltd., a renowned engineer and construction services company, with a focus on port engineering survey and design, has developed an in-house integrated 3D system for handling all aspects of port engineering: the Harbor Investigation and Design Application System (HIDAS).
The development of HIDAS began by a thorough assessment of program needs and available tools on the market. After discovering that none of the 3D design software currently available on the market could fully satisfy the needs of the company, CCCC-FHDI selected Spatial’s SDKs as core technology on which to develop their own solution:
