Knut Mersch, one of the Managing Directors at COSCOM Computer GmbH and head of the development department, opened with the company's story.
Founded in 1978, COSCOM builds software that helps machining and mechanical engineering companies optimize their CNC processes — with a solution portfolio that spans CAD/CAM, tool management, simulation, and shop floor management, primarily for lathe and milling machines.
COSCOM's customer base isn't tied to a single vertical: any company where metal processing is part of the business is a potential customer, whether they serve automotive, defense, or any other manufacturing sector — a diversified position that Knut described as "rather comfortable."
The relationship with Spatial goes back more than 20 years, starting when COSCOM made the leap from 2D to 3D and chose the 3D ACIS Modeler as the foundation of its CAD system. From there, the integration grew step by step: 3D InterOp came next, and most recently Data Prep — which COSCOM has branded internally as TCI Data Preparation.
That latest integration is already making a tangible difference for customers.
Data Prep lets COSCOM users create high-quality tool drawings and fixtures with a fraction of the geometric complexity, reducing the number of facets and details required. With a one-click simplification workflow, customers can feed leaner models into their simulation and collision-avoidance systems — a critical advantage as more shop floors adopt digital processes like in-machine collision avoidance, and as the volume of data flowing through these systems keeps growing.
Knut was clear that Spatial has become a central piece of the puzzle for COSCOM's roadmap. The two teams are already discussing what comes next, with AGM (Accelerated Go to Market) under consideration as the foundation for COSCOM's next product generation.
What makes the partnership work? For Knut, it comes down to how Spatial engages: "Spatial is a very reliable partner… they're always interested in talking to their customers, their clients, and find proper solutions for their needs." The teams talk on the same level — customers bring ideas, Spatial comes back with a solution. Hands-on, competent, and consistently listening.
His three-word verdict on Spatial? An "innovative company with very nice and competent staff" — a partner valued in the past, and one COSCOM is counting on for the future.<
