When Stäubli needed a more powerful 3D engine for their robotics simulation platform, they turned to Spatial and shipped a brand-new collision detection feature in just two months.

In this interview, Andrea Tagliabue, Global Application Leader at Stäubli Robotics, explains how this technological partnership is shaping the future of their software. Hit play below to hear the full story.

What does it take to build a world-class robotics simulation platform?

For Stäubli, a global industrial leader with over 2,000 patents and 6,000 employees across 28 countries, the answer came down to finding the right technology partner.

In this interview filmed at Spatial's booth at EMO Hannover 2025 edition, Andrea Tagliabue, Global Application Leader at Stäubli's Robotics Division, shares how the collaboration with Spatial's R&D team transformed their software suite.

Andrea Tagliabue opens by explaining Stäubli's mission: supporting customers in demanding, high-precision industrial environments.

Their flagship tool, the Stäubli Robotics Suite (SRS), is an all-in-one platform that guides users from the initial concept phase all the way to full robot programming through a complete digital twin. Customers can design entire robotic cells in 3D, optimize cycle times, and validate production setups, all before a single physical component is ordered. That means less risk, faster commissioning, and fewer costly surprises on the factory floor.

But as customer expectations grew, so did the need for a more flexible 3D engine. Their previous solution, purpose-built for robotics, had become too rigid to support the advanced features Stäubli wanted to deliver. That's when they turned to Spatial.

The partnership paid off fast. By working hand-in-hand with Spatial's R&D team, Stäubli integrated a collision detection capability into SRS in just two months, a feature that didn't exist before and that significantly improved the end-user experience.

Andrea highlights the speed, reactivity, and technical depth of Spatial's team as key differentiators, describing the relationship as a true technological partnership focused on creating added value for customers.

Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, Andrea sees AI as a game-changer for robotics. Stäubli is already exploring AI-driven optimization for cell design and leveraging it to improve UX and UI within their 3D environment — making robotics more accessible than ever through hand-guiding and simplified commissioning. And as they continue pushing the boundaries of their 3D engine, Andrea is clear: Spatial's responsiveness and support make them the ideal partner for the journey.

His three words to describe Spatial? Innovative. Reliable. Supportive.
